Why Do We Lose Lashes?

Upper eye lids generallyl have 90-150 lashes. (The bottom has 70-80)

Most grow to about 10mm long.

All human hairs go through 3 stages during their growth cycle and eventually fall out.

This includes lashes, body hair and the hairs on your head.

The 1st phase is anogen. This is the active growing stage. For eyelashes this phase lasts 4-6 weeks. Only 40% of your upper lashes are in this stage at any given time.

The 2nd phase is Catagen where the lash stops growing and the hair folicle shrinks. If a lash is plucked or falls out during this phase, it will need to complete the catagen phase (2-3 weeks) before the folicle will start to move on to the next one.

The next is Telogen (resting) phase. This can last more than 100 days before the lash falls out and a new one starts to grow.

It takes about 4-8 weeks to fully replace an eyelash and if its lash cycle is interupted (pulled out), you will still have to wait the cycle time before a new one grows back so there may be gaps.

We naturally lose about 3-5 lashes per day.

This is why most clients will most likely come for an infill of extensions within 2-4 weeks because some of their natural lashes were at the end of their cycle when applied and have fallen out leaving a more sparse look.
